Elzhi - Elmatic

I was so surprised by the overwhelming positive response to the album, I had to let it marinate for a minute, just to make sure I wasn’t being a prisoner of the moment. After listening to Illmatic and Elmatic, I tend agree with the masses on this one. Illmatic is a timeless classic. Nothing can replace the impact that album had on me and hip hop in general. But Elzhi gets props for making it even better.

Halftime and The World is Yours are among my favorite tracks. Although it may not have been his intent, Elzhi rapped circles around the lil homie NaS on the World is Yours. Shit had me hitting rewind a couple of times. Despite getting Royce on the track and Stokely’s rendition of Yearning for Your Love, I still like the original Life’s a Bitch better. Same goes for NY State of Mind. All in all, Elmatic is an excellent remake, and I happy to see Elzhi getting the props he deserves.

The album title says it all. This ATL duo hits you straight in the soul rhyming over souled out samples, that would even make Ghostface proud!

Sandman – Mt. Crushmore

Former Re-up gang member, Sandman goes in over classic hip hop instrumentals. Starts off slow, but finishes up strong!
